Evaluation Questions 1-4

Website Complete!

Hey,

After a lot of hard work, rigorous editing, tedious hour-by-hour checking, Alex and I have finalised our edits on the website, and we deem is done! Finito!

Going into more detail, you'll notice the stylistic theme of a modern-retro combination has been subtlety included in the design of our site. For instance the traffic light style of the buttons, as well as the classic comic-book theme of the tour posters AND the 90's lasers around the band members (as well as other things), all contribute to the genre and style that we tried to achieve with Apollo AD - a merging of modern pop culture with classic rock'n'retro.

As you can see in the tabs, we've made merchandise, tour dates (to encourage the idea of our band being real by having an album and future songs being released), and, like the bands of today, social media feeds. We limited the amount of tabs as we felt that whilst making sure the site looked good, it had to be easily accessible and functional to the point that users didn't get lost in our site. Information should never be more than two clicks away. Check out the site here: http://danielclivepalmer.wixsite.com/apolload

Music Video - Final Piece

Alright guys,

After a lot of work. We've finally completed our music video, final draft 'n' all! Included are all the characters we created, maintaining the theme of 'bad things happen to good people', with a happy ending - the characters coming together to enjoy music.

Behind the Scenes Featurette - Day 2

Second behind the scenes video:

Filming Update #2

Hey,

We've completed our third day of filming after two days set-back due to weather. The deadline for the draft is closing in but we feel like we'll be able to get 3/4 of the video done by then. In this day of shooting we shot a range of footage. We had -a lot- of props thanks to Alex's Dad. This included:
- Cardboard door
- Cardboard Traffic-light mask
- Street sign
- Excess cardboard
- Cardboard Radio
As well as: - Costume (Tie, Shirt and casual jeans)
- Other costume (Completely black outfit)

Camera equipment
- Tripod - DSLR
- 35MM Lens
- Behind-the-scenes camera

We do still have footage left to film, which includes the next scene which is Alex's character being laid to rest, but then he comes to life! We also need to film the final band scene where all the characters are together playing the song. We might also return to this location (Alex's neighbourhood) to reshoot some scenes as we've encountered some problems editing the clone footage.

Filming Update

Hello,

Alex and I are going to be doing our next scene of shooting today and tomorrow, dependant upon the weather. We've booked out the tripod, a DSLR, a gorilla pod, the focus 35mm lense and maybe some other stuff.

We've done location scouting on Google Earth and found a street ideal for what we hope to do in our next day of filming. The scene will involve a driver heading into different situations. In order to keep the comical feel, Alex has created cardboard props such as a car door and a traffic light. I'll dress up as a sort of formal/smart character with a tie and shirt.

Within the next two days we aim to get the entire next scene shot so we can begin editing and planning our next two scenes. Those include a third character, as well as the entire band scene which we may use the Church that we used in our pre-liminary, or we might use the school hall.

Behind the Scene Featurette - Day 1

Music Video - Filming [Day#1]

Getting straight into it - we achieved a lot in our first day of filming. We made sure to bring as much equipment as we thought we needed, this included: Gorilla Pod, DSLR, Focus lens, Tripod, Green screen, featurette camera, backup batteries aswell as all of our props - (Chef's hat, clothing, flour, eggs, cupcakes etc.)

The shots we captured were for our first scene in the music video, based on the character of a 'chef' as the lyrics have a semantic field of cooking; with lines like: "tablespoon of one big mess". The shots we were able to capture include (Not necessarily in this order nor will all be included in the final product):
  • Zoom out introduction focusing on a banana.
  • Slow corner to corner movement with closing in on Chef intro.
  • Close-up on Chef putting on shades.
  • Over-the-shoulder of chef reading 'How to Make a Music Video' guide.
  • Close-up over Chef snapping shut the guide.
  • Wide/medium shot of Chef throwing the guide towards the bin.
  • Close-up on bin which the guide gets thrown into.
  • Close-up over worktop with ingredients sliding across the shot.
  • Filler shot - close-up of Chef activating the electric whisk-thingy.
  • Close-up of egg smash.
  • Close-up of egg crush. (Yes these two are different)
  • Wide/Medium shot of Chef throwing a cup of flour into a bowl.
  • Wide/Medium shot of Chef mixing the bowl with a wooden spoon.
  • Filler shot - close-up of Chef coughing from the flour-power.
  • Close-up handheld shot of Chef sprinkling a dash of flour into the bowl. (Some intertexuality; with a reference to the current internet meme - 'Salt Guy').
  • Wide/Medium shot of Chef hatching a plan. (Not an egg)
  • Fixed Medium shot of Chef walking towards the oven.
  • Close-up of a banana peel on the floor with the Chef's foot gliding over it and falling.
  • Close-up of Chef falling. (With the intent of adding slow-motion)
  • Close-up of the space above the Chef, with flour puffing up indicating the Chef falling over.
  • Close-up of worktop with the Chef's face slowly coming into view.
  • Wide/Medium shot of Chef standing up with the banana peel on his head.

Extra Shots:
  • Close-up of flour box being opened by the Chef.
  • Side-angle medium shot of the Chef trying to pour the flour into a cup.
  • Close-up of Chef extending his in-focus arm and sprinkling a dash of flour over a bowl.
  • Close-up of egg-timer alarming.
  • Close-up of worktop with a baking tray of cupcakes being slammed upon it.
  • Close-up of Chef opening the oven.
  • Close-up of Chef opening the oven and taking the baking tray out.
  • Close-up of cupcakes on worktop, then slow pull up to the Chef who appears pleased.

Storyboard - Music Video

Hey,

Very simple post today - these are our storyboard ideas for the different scenes we're going to shoot over the course of several days. We'll probably deviate from some of the shots and perhaps even create some new ones on the day.

Logo Design: Continued

Hello!
So I'll get straight into it, to not take up too much space - here's the continuation of Alex and me designing the CD cover! Enjoy:

Logo Designing

Hey!

Designing the logo has been an on-going challenge - mainly because Alex and I were unsure as to what we wanted exactly; we definitely knew we wanted to be original. When we started, we aimed for something with perhaps a little picture, something to identify our logo as a brand and not just the name of our band. So these are the first drafts for our logo:

As you can see we, originally, liked the prospect of having the text with an icon. However we drifted away from this design as we didn't like the idea of certain pictures not being recognisable. Which brought us to our next design - plain text. This revolved around our band name being the logo itself. After some research, looking at the websites of bands such as Nickleback, to see how they're represented. We noticed a pattern emerging that bands tended to stick with their name, which was of course the easiest way to recognise them:

We liked the simplicity of the design and the freedom of design in terms of merchandise. So after a brief period of deciding what route to go down, we've landed on the name-only logo. It provides us with a range of functionality and we can pretty much put the logo on anything. We're still in the process of finishing our website and CD cover.

Slow-Mo Practice

Hello!
It's been awhile. During the past week Alex and I have been planning what we're going to get through over the next week or so. We're hoping to complete the audience task where we present our pitch to our intended audience as well as complete the storyboard, risk assessment as well as finalise our websites ideas. We also hope to start filming soon, as we've been practicing some effects in practice shots before we start trying them out in our actual filming.
At the moment, we've been watching some YouTube tutorials about slow-motion and how to make it look cool!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMt-IaCI7oM&spfreload=5
Basically, we figured out how to change the FPS on the camera so the filming is more accurate, whilst also altering premier Pro's perception to think that the filming is in fact, slow. It's a lot of complicated things, but we think we've got it.
